Eating and Drinking EstablishmentsThe Welcome Cuppa Cafe in Cheddar makes the best tea and sandwiches in the world!
On the south side of Holcombe village, suitably close to both Holcombe quarries, Curious Holes Quarry, Fairy Cave Quarry and West Halecombe is the Duke of Cumberland which offers a very friendly welcome to climbers. It has an excellent bar menu and the food is available beyond the normal nine o'clock limit if you ask nicely. It also has proper beer and we strongly recommend Cheesy Chips!
The Oakhill in Oakhill village, serves good beer and food to 9.00pm is also close to Fairy Cave Quarry.
The Bell in Leigh on Mendip is a good, friendly pub with excellent resturant style food.
Fairly close to Split Rock Quarry and Cheddar Gorge is the Hunters Lodge Inn just East of Priddy. This excellent cavers pub serves real beer straight from the barrel and superb cheap, filling, home-made food is available unitl closing time.
The Bath Arms in the village of Horningsham is conveniently near Longleat and the splendid viewpoint of Heaven's Gate which contains some lovely chunks of granite. The pub has a relaxed atmosphere and will supply very large portions of food for a reasonable price unitl the normal food curfew of 9.00 pm.
Visitors to Mells may wish to adjourn to the Griffin in Frome for real ale brewed on the premises. If you are a dedicated beer drinker it is well worth the effort but food is not served and don't expect to get a pint of lager. Heading into Frome from Mells you will turn left at the first mini roundabout you come to then right by The Globe. This is Selwood Road and after weaving between parked cars for a couple of hundred metres you should find the Griffin on your right. It really is a very good, proper pub. Indian food is served on the first Tuesday of the month and live music is often played on a Thursday.
Conveniently located 50 yards from Undercover Rock in Bristol is the Miners Arms - nice crisps.
There are other pubs of course but these are the local pubs, used by local climbers, vistors are however usually very welcome!
Mountain BikingThere is excellent mountain biking around Cheddar Gorge and Ashcombe Quarry (Nr. Halecombe West quarry)
